Crier Recruiting Corner: Introducing 2027 5 Star King Gibson

I was admittedly shocked to hear the news of 5 star combo guard King Gibson setting up an official visit this upcoming weekend to Providence. Gibson, a North Carolina native, is playing his senior season at SPIRE Academy. He previously played at Monteverde under Kevin Boyle and followed him to SPIRE.

Just like another five star guard in his class in Nasir “Rudy” Anderson, he’ll have his pick of any school he desires.

The SPIRE Academy angle is one I’m particularly watching, as his 2027 teammates are Friar targets in Micah Gordon and Moussa Kamissoko. Elite players want to play alongside elite players, and I don’t think the pursuit of this trio who go to the same prep school is a mere coincidence.

While it’s still very early in this recruitment, getting Gibson to commit to an official visit is a big deal. These visits being scheduled reinforce that Hodgson and staff can recruit with the best of the best. It’s nice press clippings at the introductory press conference to hear about the recruiting prowess of your coach, but Hodgson is showing he can back up those words with actions and outcomes. It seems like every other day Providence is getting a 4 or 5 star to visit campus, and Hodgson has already landed a four and five star out of high school in Clyde Walters and Javon Bardwell, respectively. This is going to be the norm going forward I believe.

This weekend has quite the star studded cast visiting Providence. As most know by now, 5 star 2027 point guard Nasir Anderson is visiting Providence. What may have slipped under the radar is 2028 5 star point guard Michai White (and new teammate of Anderson) is also visiting.

The Shark trying to land his next two point guards of the future in back to back classes?

Crier Recruiting Corner: Introducing 5-Star Guard Nasir Anderson

The 5-star bump is coming.

We’ve seen this in the past: when PC gets a new coach a jolt in high school recruiting typically follows. When Kim English took the job, he quickly landed a commitment from Oswin Erhunmwunse, who was a 5-star prior to him reclassifying and enrolling early, and later Jamier Jones, whom at the time of his commitment was rated a 5-star but ultimately fell just below when the final rankings came out.

Ed Cooley before him landed Kris Dunn and Ricardo Ledo who are still PC’s top two highest rated recruits ever to come to Friartown.

Even Keno Davis got pledges from Ricardo Ledo and Naadir Tharpe, although both would later decommit from the program.

Enter Bryan Hodgson, who is already labeled as one of the best recruiters in the country, and he’s already after several top players in the 2027 and 2028 high school classes.

Nasir “Rudy” Anderson is a five star who will be visiting Friartown for an official visit. He has a packed fall itinerary, as one would expect for a likely one and done point guard.

Crier Recruiting Corner: Introducing Elite 2027 Big Lewis Uvwo

The good news on fall visits keep coming for Providence fans. Yesterday, arguably the best big man in the 2027 class announced four official visits, with Providence landing one of the four visits alongside Kentucky, Baylor, and Cal.

Uvwo’s story is remarkable. He went from an unranked big in late 2025 to a 5 star in the span of one AAU season, where he made his mark as the best shot blocker in his class. The Nigerian big man can legitimately make the case as best player in the 2027 class and would fit a tailor made fit for what Hodgson wants to do with his big men in his offense.

Crier Recruiting Corner- Introducing Forward Triston Hawthorne

Triston Hawthorne, the 123rd ranked prospect in the Class of 2027 per 247Sports, cut his list of schools to six today and the Friars were included. Hawthorne is a big man who is a bit undersized at 6-8 but his 7-4 wingspan more than makes up for it. He is viewed as one of the best defensive prospects in the class and continues a trend with Coach Hodgson and staff. While known for having a modern offense that can put up points, Hodgson has made it clear that defense will not be put on the backburner. We have seen this through the way he built the current Friar roster from scratch and with the offers and visits of prospects within his first high school recruiting class at Providence.

Crier Recruiting Corner: Introducing 2027 Wing Moussa Kamissoko

Coach Bryan Hodgson and staff have built out a robust fall official visit schedule. The Providence staff will have a plethora of 4 star recruits on campus from September on.

To the surprise of many, Providence fans received notification that the duo of Moussa Kamissoko and Micah Gordon unofficially visited Providence on 8/24.

Gordon is scheduled for an official visit in the fall while Kamissoko received an offer from the Friars in early June. With the summer offer and unofficial visit, the interest from the Kamissoko camp appears to be real, and we wanted to take the time to break down the elite wing’s game.

Crier Recruiting Corner: Introducing 2027 Wing Asa Montgomery

In Bryan Hodgson’s first high school recruiting class since taking the job at Providence don’t be surprised if ‘The Shark” is looking to make a splash or two. Asa Montgomery would certainly qualify as that as the 6-6 wing is considered one of the better players in the Class of 2027. Montgomery will be taking a visit to Friartown this fall.

Montgomery is a wing out of Powder Springs, GA where he plays for Hillgrove High School. If you recall former Friar Kadeem Batts finished his high school career in Powder Springs, albeit for Hillgrove’s rival McEachern High School. Montgomery checks in as the 42nd overall recruit in the Class of 2027 per 247Sports however several other recruiting services have him rated higher including ESPN who slot him as the 26th rated player in their SC Top 100.

Crier Recruiting Corner – Introducing 2027 Forward Brandon Woodard

October is shaping up to be a busy recruiting period for the Friars, and Brandon Woodard is one of their key 2027 recruits visiting during this month. Woodard, the Bishop McNamara product from the DMV who also plays for Team Durant on the AAU circuit, has set up four visits in the fall, with the Friars joining Mississippi State, Rutgers, and the local Georgetown Hoyas. Oklahoma State is also heavily in the mix.

Bryan Hodgson has shown an appetite to add versatile wing pieces as the focal point and core of his roster (see Pate, Byrd, Walters, Mela as perfect examples of Swiss Army knives), and Woodard fits the billing. Hodgson wants chess pieces offensively and defensively that can guard multiple positions on defense and play inside and outside from the 3/4 position.

Crier Recruiting Corner: Introducing 2027 Point Guard Micah Gordon

Big East point guards have a certain reputation: brash, cocky, and downright tenacious. Khalid El-Amin, Ryan Arcidiacono, Kemba Walker, Kris Dunn, Jalen Brunson. You can even reference old school Big East points that embody this spirit like a Levance Fields, Peyton Siva, or Johnny Flynn. All guys that epitomize the Big East way of running the show for their teams with a certain flair to their game.

Micah Gordon is what a Big East point guard looks and plays like. The stout 5’10 New Jersey point guard has been tearing up the high school and AAU scene for years and has emerged as one of the top point guards in the 2027 class.

Micah has a busy fall schedule, visiting 8 schools throughout August, September, and October. Providence gets the final visit the weekend of October 16th and is looking to find its point guard of the future.

Crier Recruiting Corner: Introducing 2027 Small Forward Declan Griffiths

Bryan Hodgson has settled into his role at Providence, with summer workouts and practice concluded. The 2026-2027 roster is seemingly set*

*Barring NCAA denying Dink Pate eligibility and/or granting Joseph Pinion an extra year…sigh*

With that, his staff has set its sights on the future, building out their recruiting board, and locking in official visits for the fall.

Declan Griffiths, the younger brother of former Friar target Gavin, is set to visit Friartown the weekend of October 24th.

Crier Recruiting Corner: Introducing 2027 Wing Dylan Jones

Providence has been looking to bolster its wing room in the 2027 class, and Dylan Jones is one of a few wings that Providence is honing in on. The 6’6 big bodied wing from Tennessee is scheduled to visit Providence in September alongside a slew of other high major schools.

Maybe our old friend Jalen Lindsey can put a good word in for us?

Crier Recruiting Corner: Introducing 2027 Small Forward Carson Crawford

Carson Crawford, a 2027 wing from Florida, has set up a fall visit with Providence for October 19th. The product from Fleming Island high school, adjacent to Jacksonville, is a 4 star wing. 247 has him as 69th overall, while the 247 Composite has him ranked slightly better at 54th overall.

Crawford will be pursued by a plethora of ACC and SEC schools. Providence is currently competing with the likes of Florida State, Georgia, and Ole Miss, and I’m certain other southeastern schools will jump into the mix for the Top 75 wing.
