Crier Recruiting Corner: Introducing 5-Star Guard Nasir Anderson

The 5-star bump is coming.

We’ve seen this in the past: when PC gets a new coach a jolt in high school recruiting typically follows. When Kim English took the job, he quickly landed a commitment from Oswin Erhunmwunse, who was a 5-star prior to him reclassifying and enrolling early, and later Jamier Jones, whom at the time of his commitment was rated a 5-star but ultimately fell just below when the final rankings came out.

Ed Cooley before him landed Kris Dunn and Ricardo Ledo who are still PC’s top two highest rated recruits ever to come to Friartown.

Even Keno Davis got pledges from Ricardo Ledo and Naadir Tharpe, although both would later decommit from the program.

Enter Bryan Hodgson, who is already labeled as one of the best recruiters in the country, and he’s already after several top players in the 2027 and 2028 high school classes.

Nasir “Rudy” Anderson is a five star who will be visiting Friartown for an official visit. He has a packed fall itinerary, as one would expect for a likely one and done point guard.

We preview his game below.

One could argue that the 5-star bump already came considering recent PC commit Javon Bardwell was rated a 5-star prospect in the 2027 class before reclassifying to enroll this season. However, we get the sense that Hodgson and staff will land a 5-star prospect either in this upcoming graduating class or in 2028.

Enter Nasir Anderson.

The guard from Savannah, Georgia is a consensus 5-star prospect checking in at 8th rated prospect in the country for the Class of 2027. At 6-3 216 lbs. Anderson already has the build of an NBA guard. He currently attends Prolific Prep in Fort Lauderdale, FL and on the AAU circuit has been running with the Atlanta Celtics.

When you watch the tape on Anderson you immediately see his physicality from the lead guard spot. He has a good handle and can effortlessly shift gears when driving downhill. He attacks the rim with burst and uses his physicality to finish with ease. Anderson also can be utilized in the post not only against other guards, but forwards as well. Something you saw a lot of Villanova guards do over the years. He reminds me a lot of Marcus Smart, as both were built like football players and on the high school level were simply unstoppable when going to the rim.

As with any 5-star prospect the recruiting battle figures to be a tough one. It appears Anderson is down to ten schools and has scheduled official visits with eight of them. His first visit will come this weekend to Providence. He then will take visits to UVA, Syracuse, USC, Kentucky, Georgia, Tennessee, and UNC.

Friar fans shouldn’t fret if Anderson leaves his visit to PC without a commitment. Adam Finklestein and Eric Bossi of 247Sports believe that Anderson won’t make his college choice until the spring, which makes sense considering he missed the entire summer with a hip injury.

Once he wraps up all of his official visits, we will probably get a clearer picture of where PC stands in his recruitment. We will certainly monitor this recruitment throughout on The Crier. Even if he doesn’t commit to PC, it’s a breath of fresh air to be getting a plethora of 4 and 5 star recruits to Friartown.
