At The Providence Crier, we take pride in keeping the readers up to date on all things high school and portal recruiting. With the hiring of Bryan Hodgson, I was thinking about editing our last version of the 2027 Recruiting Primer that we put together while Kim English was at the helm, but who knows if any of those guys previously offered by PC will still have committable offers.
Thus, we are starting from scratch. If you want to take a look at the previous 2027 Recruiting Primer, feel free below. I’m certain there will be names offered by the prior staff that also get offers from Hodgson.
Mike and I will be updating this daily as news comes in with new offers, visits being set, etc.
Below, we’ll list the 2027 recruits with offers, and I also added a section of players I think should be offered by the Providence staff for a multitude of different reasons.
2027 CLASS: POSITIONS OF NEED
In this era of free agency and the transfer portal, folks will point out that a roster rebuild happens every year. I get that. I do think it is easier to retain players, however, if you have them on your roster, so I am operating under the assumption that players with more years of eligibility will be inclined to return to PC if they want to come back.
- Frontcourt Bodies – I fully expect Hodgson to add a minimum of 2 frontcourt bodies in the Class of 2027. As of right now, the 2027-2028 Providence team lacks any frontcourt players. Aletan and Page are both without eligibility, so it is imperative that Hodgson hits the transfer portal and high school levels hard for forwards and centers. This is priority #1 in my opinion.
- Lead Guard/Point – You can see with the offers extended that this position is highly coveted by Hodgson. Hightower will be on the roster after 2026-2027, but Malik Mack will be out of eligibility. Adding a portal point guard as well as a high school point guard is savvy roster building.
- Scoring Wing – This is far down the priority list relative to #1 and #2 (in my opinion), but there is a need here to restock the cupboard with shooting guards and wings that can play the 2-4. Hodgson clearly likes versatility at this position (Byrd, Pate, Mela, Vanterpool), so I’d expect him to continue to target these long bodies.
POINT GUARD OFFERS
Antonio Pemberton – 6’1 PG from New Hampshire, 4 Star Top 50 Recruit – https://247sports.com/player/antonio-pemberton-46154479/
Pemberton is a recent offer. This has my stamp of approval, as I’ve been longing for PC to get back into the mix with the Mass Rivals AAU program. Pemberton is one of the top players in all of New England.
Micah Gordon – 6 foot Point Guard from New Jersey, 4 Star Top 50 Recruit – https://247sports.com/player/micah-gordon-46154705/
Gordon is one of the top players in the state of New Jersey regardless of class. The Plainfield product will be pursued by essentially every Big East program. He’s a talent.
Aaron Britt Jr.: 6 foot Point Guard from Florida, 4 Star Top 75 Recruit – https://247sports.com/player/aaron-britt-jr-46151000/
Britt Jr. was offered by Hodgson a day after Bryan’s introductory press conference at PC and will carry the title of officially the first 2027 offer in the Hodgson PC era.
The lead guard had already visited USF in August 2025 and is familiar with the Hodgson staff. He carries an Arkansas State offer too, so I need to do some digging on if Hodgson actually has been recruiting him since his days as the Arkansas State head man.
This could be one to monitor, but he also has offers from the in-state Seminoles and the Tennessee Volunteers.
SHOOTING GUARD OFFERS
ONeal Delancy: 6’2 Combo Guard from Monteverde Academy – 4 Star, Top 50 recruit
This is Hodgson reiterating a previous offer. Delancy plays for the prestigious Monteverde Academy. He has previously visited USF, but Hodgson faces stiff competition in Houston, Florida State, Maryland, and Miami
Patrick Otey – 6’4 Shooting Guard from New England, 4 Star Top 75 – https://247sports.com/player/patrick-otey-46142931/
I was calling for the Otey offer after Pemberton was offered, and the offer came shortly after. Otey has ideal height and size at the 2/3 spot and provided shooting that would be a great fit for the Hodgson offer.
PLAYERS I’D LIKE TO SEE OFFERED (REALISTIC CHANCE OF LANDING)
I didn’t include players that are pipe dreams (for instance, a 5 star player from Arizona with zero ties to the staff or school). I listed players that can play at the Big East level, would be fits at Providence, and who I can see Hodgson realistically landing.
Theo Edema – 6’11 C from Massachusetts, 4 Star Top 50 Center – https://247sports.com/player/theo-edema-46159672/
Edema is one of my favorite recruits in the 2027 class, and I’d personally incentivize him to reclass to 2026 to bolster the Friar frontcourt for this next season.
Edema, just like Oswin, can likely earn minutes even as a reclassed freshman behind Aletan and Page. It’d be a wise move to get him on the roster before the blue bloods come calling in 2027.
Kamsi Awaka – 6’8 C from New Jersey, 4 Star Top 75 – https://247sports.com/player/kamsi-awaka-46151601/
Awaka would be a big body to add to the frontcourt, and I’m all for adding different body types there. The 6’11/7 footers are rare and worth their weight in gold, but having a bully at the 4/5 is useful too.
Anderson Diaz – 6’2 PG from New York, 4 Star Top 50 Recruit – https://247sports.com/player/anderson-diaz-46146423/
Diaz played last year for Overtime Elite and ran with the famous New York Rens in the AAU circuit. Shifty lefty guard that can score and facilitate with plus athleticism.
DJ Hawkins – 6’7 Small Forward from Connecticut, 4 Star Top 125 – https://247sports.com/player/dj-hawkins-46154481/
Teammate of Otey, Hawkins would provide more size on the wing for Hodgson. Based off his portal additions, that seems to be a clear priority for Hodgson and staff.
Josiah Adamson – 6’3 Shooting Guard from Massachusetts, 4 Star Top 150 – https://247sports.com/player/josiah-adamson-46164903/
CATS Academy player that would in theory follow Jaylen Harrell to Providence from that school.
Markus Kerr – 6’6 Shooting Guard from New Hampshire, 4 Star Top 125 – https://247sports.com/player/markus-kerr-46143852/
Local product playing for Brewster Academy. Has the size at the wing spot Hodgson is looking for. His stock will be on the rise after a few strong AAU showings this spring.
Andrew Kretkowski – 6’8 Small Forward from New Jersey, 4 Star Top 100 – https://247sports.com/player/andrew-kretkowski-46151099/
The Garden State product plays for a high school that translates to PC well. He has size at 6’8 at the 3 position and rebounds well at the wing.
Dylan Cowell – 6’9 PF from New Jersey, 4 Star Top 150 – https://247sports.com/player/dylan-cowell-46163590/
This is one I’d like to see PC monitor his senior year. His offer list doesn’t scream high major player, but neither did Ryan Mela’s, and we have seen how that has worked out. He could continue to grow and be an athletic 4 option for the Friars.
Jamal McKnight Jr – 5’10 PG from New York, 3 Star, Top 175 – https://247sports.com/player/jamaal-mcknight-jr-46151525/
His ranking won’t wow you, but I don’t really care. He runs the show for Long Island Lutheran, which has a history of producing ready made college guards. His stock will likely explode this year after biding his time behind Mingo.
Jaydn Jenkins – 6’10 Center from Pennsylvania, 4 Star Top 100 Player – https://247sports.com/player/jaydn-jenkins-46146653/
Big man that would be a good fit as the athletic big in the Hodgson system.
Kamari Whyte – 6’3 Combo Guard from Vermont, 4 Star Top 125 Player – https://247sports.com/player/kamari-whyte-46161177/
Local player from Vermont Academy. Athletic player who is known for his defensive prowess.
Declan Griffiths – 6’6 SF from Connecticut, 4 Star Top 125 Player – https://247sports.com/player/declan-griffiths-46159406/
The Avon Old Farms product is brother of one time portal target Gavin Griffiths, so there may be some familiarity with the PC program. Griffiths plays for the Middlesex Magic, which are becoming a top AAU program nationally and are churning out high level D1 products yearly. Griffiths is also going to be playing for Mela’s high school Newman School. He’s a shooter like his brother. This is one where PC could get in the driver’s seat if they decide to push chips in and pursue heavily, in my humble opinion.
