“I’m coming home Friartown”
That was the message Lewis Uvwo gave on CBS Sports HQ after the 6-11 big man from Nigeria committed to Providence over Baylor, Kentucky and Cal on Wednesday afternoon. Uvwo is the number one rated center and the seventh overall rated prospect in the Class of 2027 per 247Sports. He becomes the highest rated recruit ever to commit to the program.
We break down the commitment below.
Lewis is considered the best defensive prospect in the Class of 2027. He averaged 4.5 blocks on the EYBL circuit this past summer and seems to have the physical makings of a guy that can make an impact on the defensive side of the ball right away. Offensively he is still pretty raw but should fit seamlessly into Coach Hodgson’s system being a guy who will be able to rim run and be a lob threat. We detailed more of his game in the below Crier Recruiting Corner article.
The news of him committing to Providence was a pretty big shock. While his recruitment was kept pretty close to the vest the chatter for a while was that he would land at Baylor, the first high major school to offer him. I guess they don’t call Bryan Hodgson The Shark for nothing.
After listening to Lewis speak on CBS Sports HQ he seems to be about the right stuff and will be a great representative of PC. He seems to care about his family a lot and had his parents stream into the broadcast from Nigeria. One thing that might have set PC apart from the other suitors was the fact that they were the only school to fly in his parents for his official visit.
Coach Hodgson and staff have the program rolling going into the upcoming season. PC never trailed in their two exhibitions against two ACC opponents and now he’s landed the first major piece of his first high school recruiting class with the program. It remains to be seen how many high school prospects the staff hopes to add but you’d have to think Lewis Uvwo can attract other blue-chip prospects to follow him to Friartown. One to keep an eye out for is his Prolific Prep teammate Nasir Anderson. He is the number eight rated prospect in the Class of 2027 and visited PC on September 4th.
Its a great day to be a FRIAR!
