This weekend has quite the star studded cast visiting Providence. As most know by now, 5 star 2027 point guard Nasir Anderson is visiting Providence. What may have slipped under the radar is 2028 5 star point guard Michai White (and new teammate of Anderson) is also visiting.
The Shark trying to land his next two point guards of the future in back to back classes?
The 6 foot point guard is scheduled to visit PC this weekend. We break down his game below.
Recruiting Profile
5 star, 18 overall, #2 Point Guard in Class
Michai White has had quite a high school journey. The New Jersey native, he started his freshman year at powerhouse St. Ben’s in New Jersey, played his sophomore year at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire, and is now playing his junior year at Prolific Prep in Florida. What is notable is who is also playing at Prolific Prep: Nasir Anderson and Lewis Uvwo, two 5 stars Providence is recruiting in the 2027 class.
White plays his AAU ball for famous program City Rocks in New York.
His high ranking is all the more impressive because he’s not your typical 6’3-6’4 point guard that normally dominates the top rankings. He is listed anywhere from 6’0-6’2 and has a build that will remind Friar fans of Maliek White.
He has a ton of high major offers, with a few being Indiana, Florida State, Houston, Louisville, and Auburn, amongst others.
Playstyle Analysis
He has a lot of confidence and swagger every time he steps on the court. He has that New Jersey/New York bravado that that geographic area of point guards are commonly known for.
He can knock down the three ball with ease, which opens up the court for him when having to penetrate and drive and dish. He’s a pure scorer and can just as easily fill it up from deep as he can driving to the rim.
He is more scorer than true point guard at this point, and that is fine by me because he can score at a truly elite level for his class.
White has the ball on a string, a really sound handle that can run the show in a half court set and in transition. I would have absolutely no concerns with him offensively being the 1 for the Friars.
Fit with Providence
The Friars are looking for their point guard of the future once Malik Mack loses his remaining eligibility. Gavin Hightower will be a sophomore in 2026, but it is always good roster management to have the successor learn for a year or two under a savvy veteran like a Hightower.
White and Providence have a lot going for it: White is a New Jersey kid who understands the appeal of playing in the Big East. Additionally, Hodgson is recruiting a few of his 2027 Prolific Prep teammates in Anderson and Uvwo. Providence is battling with a ton of blue bloods for all three players, but having a common school amongst the three is a positive.
This one still has a ways to go, but it is a great sign to be getting another five star player on campus early in the Hodgson tenure.
