Kim English is off to a great start in the 2025 recruiting class landing big man Oswin Erhunmwunse. It looks like they aren’t done trying to add other big time recruits to go along with their star big man. Kim English is hunting for Top 50 talent in the 2025 class.
One of those that could possibly join Oswin in Friartown is Oak Ridge’s Jamier Jones. If you follow along with PC recruiting, this is a name the Friars have been linked to for some time. So he’s a name you should definitely get to know.
We detail his game below, who else is involved with his recruitment, and how he fits with the Providence Friars.
Jones is a 6-6 forward out of Florida and rated #23 nationally in the 247sports composite rankings and the 6th rated small forward. What stands out about Jones is his bounce and shot making. Jones has elite athletic ability and finishes at the rim with authority when driving to the hoop. He has also developed into a really good shot maker hitting in both the mid-range and from deep with consistency.
One other thing that jumps out is his proficiency in playing defense. For somebody like Kim English who prioritizes defensive efficiency, Jones is built for what Kim English wants to do, having the size and athleticism to guard the 2-4.
Player Comp
Andre Iguodala – It’s obviously high praise when comparing a recruit to a guy who is a 4-time NBA Champion and a Finals MVP, but the comp feels right. Both stand in at 6-6 and have similar builds. Jamier Jones is a big bodied wing who can use his physicality to expose the defense. When he gets downhill and in transition, it’s pretty much a wrap for the defense.
If you watch 76ers Iguodala highlights, you’ll see he had some serious bounce in his day. Jones is a guy who should be a good defender due to his physical attributes and see his 3-point shooting numbers carrying over to the college game.
BOC: I’ll give a more recent comp. Jahmyl Telfort of Butler. I think the ceiling for Jones is higher, but the similarities are there in my opinion. Both are big bodied wings who can use their physicality on both ends. Jamier is a more fluid athlete with a better offensive repertoire, but I see the floor being Telfort, and that is high praise.
The Fit of Jamier Jones
I see Jones as a 3 in the English system. He has some Corey Floyd Jr. build to him with a bit more height and size (scary thought). He’ll be a chess piece on offense, as he can expose smaller defenders in transition and in the post. If a 4 has to guard him due to his strength, he can use his foot speed to beat his defender.
Defensively, I wrote above about him being a Swiss Army knife. His default will be guarding the 3 or 4, but he can essentially guard the entire wing.
Recruitment Overview
From a recruiting standpoint, if you read the tea leaves, it seems the interest is mutual between Jones and the Providence program. There are certain Twitter accounts tied to Providence fans who tweet at Jamier daily asking him to commit. You have to respect the hustle from the Friar fanbase.
He took an official visit to Providence back in early November and seems to appreciate the love he’s getting from the program and fans (see note above).
He has yet to cut his list, but it seems like the Friars and South Carolina Gamecocks are the leaders in the clubhouse. South Carolina is a more formidable threat than one would initially expect due to the stellar season they are currently having. They are also closer to home than Providence.
If the Friars can land a player of Jamier Jones’ caliber to go along with Oswin, PC will be in line to have a massive haul in 2025 that would rank as a Top 10-15 type class nationally.
