We talked on the spaces after the Friars landed Daquan Davis and Cole Hargrove that PC would be shopping for a splashy portal add. Well that came to fruition with Kim English and staff securing a commitment from Jason Edwards. The Atlanta native was originally a JUCO star at Doge City Community College, where he earned first team all-American honors in the NJCAA . He also led his team to a conference title and an appearance in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA tournament. He would then make the jump to Division 1 with North Texas where he made first team all-conference in the AAC. He entered the portal this past season where he landed at Vanderbilt. He lead the Commodores in scoring at 17 ppg, earning third team all-SEC and a NCAA tournament appearance.
He was viewed as one of the best guards in the portal. We break down the commitment below.
The vision is starting to crystallize in an all important offseason for Kim English and staff. The Friars saw 6 players leave the program for the portal and have now filled three of those openings. Edwards should bring the Friars a three-level scorer and a guy that’s had success seemingly everywhere he has been. With Bryce Hopkins only playing three games this past season the Friars never had a go to option. They will now have that in Edwards.
What makes Edwards great is his ability to be the ball handler on pick and rolls. He averaged 1.05 PPP on ball handler pick and roll sets ranking in the 91st percentile. He is also excellent at attacking the basket. He uses his quickness to put his man in a bad spot then initiates contact and finishes through it. He is also a good shooter hitting 35% of his threes on a lot of attempts with his quick release.
In the addition of getting a commitment from Stefan Vaaks, the Friars are building quite a roster for the 2025-2026 season.
