OTE Prospect Commits to Friartown; Will Reclassify

Coach Hodgson and staff welcomed Ryan Mela and the 10 transfer portal additions to campus earlier this week and there’s more players on the way. The Friars landed Overtime Elite wing Clyde Walters. The Birmingham, Alabama native was the 82nd ranked prospect per 247sports composite in the 2027 class. Instead the six-seven wing will reclassify and enroll at Providence immediately.

Walters held offers from Ole Miss, Syracuse, Alabama, Georgia Tech and Mississippi State. He played on the AAU scene for the Alabama Fusion and averaged 19.9 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game.

He is a wing with a lot of length and a good face up game. He has really good athleticism and is a capable shooter. Walters is in a similar mold to Dink Pate and Miles Byrd. Coach Hodgson and staff clearly have their type on the wing.

With his reclassification, it puts the Friars in a great position. If he plays well enough that you can’t keep him off the floor in year one, that’s a welcome development, but if not, he’s a prospect that has a lot of upside and can develop in Coach Hodgson’s system.

Unrelated but the timing here was impeccable. It’s reunion weekend at Providence College and what a better way for alumni, who are already celebrating, to get fired up than a Hodgson shark gif?

The Friars roster now sits at a dozen but expect the staff to add a few players over these next couple of summer months.

Go Friars!
