It was a good night to be a Friar fan and a fan of the Big East Conference. Devin Carter would hear his name called by Commissioner Adam Silver as he was selected by the Sacramento Kings with the 13th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. Carter, alongside his dad Anthony and Coach Kim English, got to enjoy the moment as Devin became the first Friar since Kris Dunn taken in the lottery.
This was a culmination of a great year of basketball for Devin Carter. After a Big East Player of the Year campaign from DC, he saw his stock continue to rise as the draft process went underway. There was reportedly a lottery promise for Devin Carter heading into draft night and sure enough he became a lottery pick at #13.
As for the fit? It’s certainly a crowded backcourt in Sacramento, including former Xavier guard Colby Jones, but Carter should get an opportunity. His style of play seems to be a nice fit with the Kings. The explosive plays out of Carter would jive with D’Aaron Fox’s game.
I wouldn’t be doing my job without discussing what this night means to the PC program. It shows that the Friars have a ton of momentum going forward. In his first year as head coach, Kim English helped Devin work on his game and it resulted in Carter becoming a lottery pick. That should be music to recruit’s ears!
Speaking of recruiting, Kim is looking to keep his hot streak on the recruiting trail alive with the announcement of Jaylen Harrell on July 1st. After securing a commitment from Jamier Jones, having Oswin Erhunmwunse reclassify, and Carter being selected in the first round of the draft, it has been a nice start to the summer for Kim English, Nate Tomlinson, Dennis Felton, Tim Fuller and company.
Back to Devin Carter. I think I can speak for all of Friartown when I say Thank You. Watching him electrify the Dunk these past two years was a blast. He might’ve started as a South Carolina Gamecock, but he finished as a guy Friar fans won’t soon forget. Wishing him the best in his NBA career.
FRIAR.

I have high hopes for Devin Carter in the NBA. I wish him the best of luck with the Kings. If he gets a reasonable amount of playing time I’ll be subscribing to NBA League Pass next season.
Didn’t see them inteviewing Devin after his selection last night. Why not? Too much air time for Hurley. We’re coming after his ass next season! Go Friars!
