Miscellaneous College Basketball Thoughts:

  1. Alabama is looking like a darkhorse championship team. I always thought highly of Nate Oats as a head coach after what he did at Buffalo, but the pace in which he has turned around the Crimson Tide is jaw dropping. When Providence lost to Bama, I thought of this Bama team as a superior team, but not in my wildest dreams did I foresee this meteoric rise as a Top 10 program.
  2. When looking ahead to the NCAA bubble, it is interesting to see how different this team compares to last year. Last year, the Friars had some amazing wins against ranked teams that offset horrific losses. This year, however, there are no “terrible” losses. Is the worst loss a loss to a down Butler team on the road? This may be the saving grace for the Providence Friars as we look towards Selection Sunday.
  3. David Duke is getting some national recognition, as he was named Third Team All-American. See here: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/ncaa-basketball/news/sporting-news-2020-21-college-basketball-midseason-all-america-team/9s6hcpwityv51xsraqr1yh69l
  4. Nate Watson has also been recognized by HoopHall as a potential winner of the Kareem Abdul Janbar award, given to the top center in college. It is great to see his name amongst the likes of Garza and Cockburn. http://www.hoophallawards.com/kareem.php
