Providence (7-5) goes against Marquette (6-6) to hopefully get off a 2 game losing streak and get things back on track in the Big East. The game is at 9PM on FS1.
Keys to Friar Victory
Play Physical: When you play against a Seton Hall or Xavier, you know you are in for a fistfight of a game. This isn’t the case with your typical Marquette teams. I’d love to see PC flex their muscles, so to speak, and play a really physical brand of basketball against Marquette. Muck up the game, and it should fare well for the Friars.
Don’t Let Garcia Get Comfortable: This is aligned with the first talking point above, but you can’t let the freshman stud get going early in the game. Providence needs to limit his touches and make life tough for him when he is attacking the rim or trying to score. Cooley hopefully will devise many different defensive looks for Garcia in hopes of confusing him. The offense flows through Garcia and will stall out if he isn’t playing at his normal level.
Bynum’s Health: This will be one to monitor Tuesday. I personally would like to see Bynum fully healthy rather than at 75 percent, especially because the next game isn’t until Saturday.
Player Not Named Duke/Watson to Score 12+: Whether this is Reeves or Nichols, a third option needs to emerge for the Friars to win games in the Big East. Reeves took a step in the right direction, attacking the rim instead of just relying on his 3 point shot.
Bench Production Needs to Happen: The bench scored 8 points against Xavier. That production needs to be doubled at a minimum to lighten the load for Duke/Watson.
