The Friars open up the Maui Invitational against Archie Miller and the Indiana Hoosiers. Here are some things to look for.
Friars to Watch:
Nate Watson – Can he build off his strong opening game against Fairfield? This could be his national coming out party against likely NBA first round pick Trayce Jackson Davis. Look for Indiana to double him in the post. It will be imperative for Nate to identify the double coming and kick to the open man.
David Duke – I believe this game will be won or lost in the frontcourt; however, this is a game where Duke should put up gaudy stats. I’d anticipate a 15, 6, and 5 type game with a few key defensive plays.
Ed Croswell/Noah Horchler – Can they be instant offense off the bench? They may be the beneficiaries of the Watson-TJD showdown.
Statistics to Watch
Free Throw Shooting – Indiana shot 45% from the line in their first game, while Providence shot 75%. With this game being an anticipated defensive battle, making free throws will be vital to success.
Three Pointers: Providence made 7 threes in the first game on 16 attempts. Indiana made 5 threes on 19 attempts. With the big men being focal points of each team’s offense, look for there to be wide open looks from deep. The team that capitalizes on this likely puts themselves in a good position to win.
Bold Prediction
AJ Reeves knocks down 6 3’s to lead the Friars in scoring with 22 points.
Final Score Prediction
Providence 68, Indiana 62
