For the past two months Friar fans have been hoping for the best but expecting the worst regarding the availability of senior forward Emmitt Holt this season. Today the expectation came a reality as the school announced that Holt will be taking a medical redshirt and will miss the season due abdominal surgery. The story was first reported by Kevin McNamara of the Providence Journal. While the loss of Emmitt Holt definitely hurts the Crier is someone who likes to look at the glass half full. I think the fact this happened before the season started was a blessing for the Friars. Holt brings a lot of attitude and toughness down low and to lose that midseason would be a tougher blow. Also next year’s team is going to be pretty young so I think Holt could really thrive next season as the role of team leader and *knock on wood* would be instrumental in leading to the Friars to what could be their 6th straight tournament appearance. The most important thing though is Emmitt’s health and I hope he makes a full recovery.
