2027 High School Recruiting Primer, Version 2.0

The 2027 class is still two years away from enrolling in college, but the chase to land elite talent never subsides. Providence is already targeting several 2027 recruits, with offers recently going out. In case you missed the 2026 Recruiting Primer, we are on Version 8.0.

It is much too early to know what positions are of need, what recruits are at the top of the pecking order, etc., but it is always helpful to get familiar with names that the Friars are recruiting.

With a school like Providence that is not a traditional blue blood, the staff has to rely on “identifying talent” early before blue bloods swoop in. Insert Donovan Mitchell’s mom quote.

An augmentation I’ve made to this primer that I previously didn’t have in other primers is recruits that I’d like to see Providence offer and target that they haven’t yet. I provide my rationale as to why with each recruit.

This recruiting primer will be updated as more offers flow in for the 2027 class. Enjoy.

GUARD

J’Lon Lyons – Point Guard out of Maryland – https://247sports.com/player/jlon-lyons-46151694/

I like this offer a ton. The DMV point guard may be familiar with Daquan Davis who played in the DMV and is going to be the starting guard for the Friars (presumably) as Lyons progresses through high school. English has ties to the DMV area, and I’d like to see him pluck more talent from this area moving forward.

Patrick Otey – Combo Guard out of Massachusetts – https://247sports.com/Player/Patrick-Otey-46142931/

If you are looking for the next bluechipper to send shockwaves nationally by committing to Providence (Oswin 2024, Jamier 2025), Otey may be the most likely. The guard played for CATS, home of Jaylen Harrell, and is considered a 5 star Top 25 player in his class. He’ll be playing this year at St. Thomas More. Let’s keep the Massachusetts pipeline going!

Anderson Diaz – 4 Star, Top 50 Guard from New York – https://247sports.com/Player/anderson-diaz-46146423/

This was a Summer 2025 offer. The New York guard has a plethora of high major offers with Louisville and Illinois.

King Kendrick – Point Guard from North Carolina – https://247sports.com/Player/King-Kendrick-46142578/

This gives me memories of the Cooley recruiting strategy of identifying North Carolina talent early before the UNC’s, Duke’s, and NC State’s of the world come swooping in. We’ll see where this recruitment goes, but I do appreciate English getting in early.

Tre Keith – Combo Guard out of Georgia – https://247sports.com/player/tre-keith-46148952/

The Top 75 guard out of the Peach State was an early offer for Providence. This would be a tough pull, but I also thought landing a Top 50 talent in Jamier Jones from Florida would be a tough pull. Let’s see what this staff can do.

Jordan Hunter – 3 Star Shooting Guard out of VA – https://247sports.com/Player/Jordan-Hunter-46143037/

Another “get in early” offer for English. Hunter has offers as well from George Mason and George Washington.

King Gibson – 6’4 Combo Guard out of Florida – https://247sports.com/Player/king-gibson-46144397/

The Top 15 5 star will be following Kevin Boyle to SPIRE Academy. If Providence is a serious contender, they’ll likely be going against bluebloods like North Carolina. Tough competition, but the Derkack commitment and playing alongside Darrell Davis may help sway Gibson more to Providence than initially perceived.

Darrell Davis – PG out of PA – https://247sports.com/player/darrell-davis-46153944/

Davis played for Team Thrill on the AAU Circuit. He is going to play for Kevin Boyle at SPIRE Academy in Ohio where he’ll have much more exposure nationally. Expect his recruitment to continue to blow up, with current offers from West Virginia, Florida State, and Maryland, alongside Providence.

A nice little factoid: his older brother plays for a Big East school. Daquan Davis. Heard of him?

Another factoid: his teammate this year will be Aiden Derkack. Where will Derkack be playing? Providence.

This may be the early frontrunner for 2027 most likely to commit to Providence.

Martay Barnes – 4 Star Shooting Guard from Florida – https://247sports.com/player/martay-barnes-46149289/

The Orlando shooting guard is being pursued by Providence, as well as Florida State, Indiana, Kansas, and Miami. English may be trying to pounce on the Florida momentum gained with Jamier Jones.

FRONTCOURT

Theo Edema – 6’11 C from MA – https://247sports.com/player/theo-edema-46159672/

In Version 1 of the 2027 Primer, I actually had Theo as a recruit that I wanted to see offered. Shortly thereafter, Edema received a Friar offer. Theo is now ranked as a Top 50 recruit. Edema has offers from Georgetown, Bama, Clemson, and Kansas.

One interesting recruit sub-plot is that Edema has been rumored to be a reclass candidate, and Providence has a dire need for more frontcourt help after this year.

Darius Wabbington – 5 Star Center out of Arizona – https://247sports.com/recruitment/darius-wabbington-167291/recruitinterests/

This offer shows I should probably stay in my lane. In the original drafting of this primer, I questioned the offer and effort put into this recruitment. Fast forward a few months and Wabbington is scheduled to visit Providence in November. I still think the hometown Arizona Wildcats are the team to beat, but getting him on campus is quite a pull.

RECRUITS I’D LIKE TO SEE PROVIDENCE OFFER

Antonio Pemberton – 6’1 PG from New Hampshire – https://247sports.com/player/antonio-pemberton-46154479/

Pemberton plays for a Friar friendly program in Brewster Academy, as well as plays for Mass Rivals. He is ranked as the 77th overall recruit in his class and has high major offers with Penn State and Rutgers. This one seems like it could be an easy win for Providence if they put the pressure on with an offer and request for an official visit. I’d like to see an offer here yesterday. Continuing a pipeline with Brewster and Mass Rivals is good business. Mass Rivals always has a guy who methodically rises up the rankings. Pemberton is likely this guy in the 2027 class.

Cherif Milogo – 7’2 Center from MA – https://247sports.com/player/cherif-millogo-46159949/

Can’t teach 7’2. Milogo also plays for CATS, where Jaylen Harrell played. This will be one to monitor. Milogo is highly ranked as a 4 star, Top 50 guy and is the #1 player in the state of Massachusetts.

Nicolas Mitrovic – 6’10 Center from MA – https://247sports.com/player/nicolas-mitrovic-46159677/

Teammates of Milogo, English could replenish his frontcourt at one school alone. Massachusetts has some talented frontcourt players in the class of 2027 with Milogo, Mitrovic, and Edoma. English NEEDS to land 1 of the 3.

Ladanion Payne – 6’2 PG from MA – https://prephoops.com/player/ladanion-payne/

Payne is an under the radar recruit, but plays at Brimmer and May, home of Friar alum AJ Reeves. I need to see more of his game before pulling the trigger on an offer, but it can’t hurt to passively recruit him as his high school career progresses.

Clyde Walters – 6’6 SF from New Hampshire – https://247sports.com/player/clyde-walters-46149063/

A top 70 wing in Providence’s “backyard”? Sign me up. He already has some high major offers with Alabama and Syracuse.

Derek Daniels – 6’7 C from Maryland – https://247sports.com/player/derek-daniels-46152458/

Daniels is a DMV product that played for DeMatha before transferring to Paul VI. It’d be nice to make some in-roads in both schools for English. His height and position he plays may be the reason for a lack of an offer.

Jamaal McKnight Jr. – 5’10 PG from Maryland – https://247sports.com/player/jamaal-mcknight-jr-46151525/

Another DMV point guard after Daquan Davis? Yes please. McKnight has some strong offers already, so we’ll see if Providence throws its hat into the ring.

Kirby Duran – 6’1 PG from Maryland – https://247sports.com/player/kirby-duran-46149891/

Another DMV point, his offer list has a few strong offers in Florida State, West Virginia, and Va Tech, but Providence may be able to sneak in early here if they want.

Kamsi Awaka – 6’10 C from CT – https://247sports.com/player/kamsi-awaka-46151601/

This is a big in the “backyard” of Providence that they may be able to get in early on. Fordham is his only listed offer.

Caleb Ourigou – 6’10 C from NY – https://247sports.com/player/caleb-ourigou-46154193/

Providence just offered his teammate Anderson Diaz, so potentially they try to pair the two with an offer here. Providence needs frontcourt reinforcements, and I’ll always try to get bigs from the Northeast to play close to home.

Tyler Sutton – 6’2 PG from PA – https://247sports.com/player/tyler-sutton-46146255/

Providence may be able to make some in-roads in the Philly area with Willard getting his feet underneath him at Villanova and with them presumably not having a Nova-esque roster.

Munir Greig – 6’6 SF from PA – https://247sports.com/player/munir-greig-46142869/

See comment above on Sutton. Same goes here.

Andrew Kretkowski – 6’7 SF from NJ – https://247sports.com/player/munir-greig-46142869/

I presume Rutgers will have a down year after the failed Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey experiment. Providence is trying to make in-roads in the Garden State, and it wouldn’t hurt to offer here. Kretkowski has another teammate nationally regarded as a top prospect.

Brandon Woodard – 6’8 F from MD – https://247sports.com/player/brandon-woodard-46149497/

Schools in the DMV are down, and there is short term uncertainty with Buzz Williams and Maryland. It may not be the worst time to try and scoop up some DMV talent if you are Providence.

Jacob Canton – 6’3 PG from NJ – https://247sports.com/player/jacob-canton-46151100/

See above notes on Kretkowski. Same goes here.

Anthony Vick – 6’4 SG from MA – https://prephoops.com/player/anthony-vick/

Another one where he could be a late bloomer, and we get in early here.

Micah Gordon – 5’10 PG from New Jersey – https://247sports.com/player/micah-gordon-46154705/

Despite being a Top 50 recruit, his offer list is that of mid-majors. This could be one to get in early before high majors come swooping in.
