The Hoop Scene Always Live Tournament was held this past weekend, and there were a handful of 2021 Friar recruiting targets in action. Thanks to Jamie Shaw, we were able to get some information around certain players the Friars are pursuing.

Mading is your new breed of big man that can stretch the floor with his shot-making ability and run the floor like a gazelle. He’d be a great addition to the 2021 Friar recruiting class as a hybrid big that would be paired with a more traditional low-post big man like an Ayomide or Aidoo.
The Friars continue to be in a good position for the Top 150 player from North Carolina.

No surprise here, as Aidoo’s recruitment has been blowing up over the past few months. With Cooley looking to take two frontcourt players to replace Watson and Horchler, Aidoo would be a great first piece to man the paint over the next few years. You’d have to think Cooley would be happy landing either Aidoo or Ayomide to cement that 5 position.
Breon Pass

Pass is a relatively new name to the Friars, as we recently became serious contenders after offering the North Carolina guard. It will be interesting to see how he develops, as I believe he is more of a combo guard right now, but Cooley has been known to take scoring-first guards and round their game out to become complete point guards.

The first thing that jumps out to me is how quick his first step is. He gets to where he wants on the court with that elite first step, and I think that is a skill set that translates in college.
He also displays a really nice floater in the lane that will be a weapon at any level. It helps combat his lack of size when getting into the paint. A minor concern is his height. I believe he is listed at 6’1, but that may be generous.
We know that Pass is an elite athlete, exemplified by his offers for both basketball and football. If he is an elite shooter as well, this kid may become the next star at Providence.
I hate making comparisons, as it is unfair to the current recruit, but Pass is eerily similar to a former Friar great. An undersized combo guard that has elite athleticism, shooting, quickness, with a nice floater? Paging Mr. Cotton…
