Big Picture Takeaway After Providence Escapes with a Win Against Butler 71-70

A win is a win. That is without question, especially this time of year. Rather than break down the game itself, The Crier and I are going to pivot and provide some high level thoughts on this Friar squad as they make the homestretch towards the Big East Tournament and NCAA’s. After watching every game of the Friars this season, we have a good feel for what the Friars do well and where they need to improve if they want to be a second weekend NCAA team.

Friars Execute Down the Stretch (Again)- Sweep St. John’s with 86-82 Victory

Tell me if you’ve heard this before: the Providence Friars built a solid lead and executed down the stretch to hold onto said lead. That seems to be the secret recipe this season as the Friars once again won a game decided within 5 points. The Providence Friars are 8-0 in such games. The Crier was worried about this one. St John’s, now 11-9 (3-6), came in desperately needing a win and Providence was coming off an emotional rollercoaster last week. The betting line stunk to high heaven, and a let down seemed inevitable. Welp what the Crier didn’t realize was this team is built different. They stay calm, cool and collected in crunch time and just know how to win. With the win the Friars are now 19-2 (9-1), their best start since the 72-73 Final Four team. Let’s take a look how they got it done.

Providence Wins an Instant Classic Against Marquette 65-63

Providence completed a brutal week with their second win in two games against ranked teams. After taking time to get our respective heart rates down to normal levels, we sat down to write about the Friar win against a feisty Golden Eagle squad. As much as this was an absolutely fantastic win, a hat tip is in order for Marquette. Folks need to forget about where they were ranked preseason and realize this is a Top 4 (at worst) squad in the Big East. Personally, I have no desire to play against this Marquette team again. They are incredibly efficient in their offensive sets and are an absolute menace on defense. Shaka seems to have found the perfect landing spot.

With all that said, it is great to get a revenge game win against one of two teams to beat the Friars thus far this year. We break down the game below:
