Friar Friday’s: Virtual Visits, Hopkins Recruitment, New Offer on Horizon?

In case you missed it:

Analyzing Finalists – Bryce Hopkins

Lucas Taylor Commits to Clemson

Lucas Taylor, the North Carolina 2-Guard, committed to Clemson over the weekend. Taylor was a Providence recruit for some time now, but ultimately Taylor wanted to play for a “local” school in the ACC. You can’t blame him, but it again reiterates the downside of focusing on recruits in this geography. Objectively speaking, Providence is a much more successful and stable program than Clemson’s, but the proximity to home and playing in the ACC won out.

Tre Vaughn Minot Virtual Visit

Canadian big man Minot continues to be on the radar for the Providence Friars. An offer has not yet arrived, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see an offer shortly.

The Friars have struck out on big men Ayomide and Wiznitzer, and I think still hold out hopes on North Carolina big Jonas Aidoo. If we miss on Aidoo, it wouldn’t surprise me to see an offer go out to Minot immediately after.

Avery Brown Virtual Visit

Providence recently held a Zoom visit with Connecticut point guard Avery Brown of the 2022 class. Indiana and Penn State have offered amongst high major programs, but I get the sense Brown is waiting on an offer from UCONN. It would behoove Providence to get an offer to Brown ahead of that eventual Huskies offer if they are serious about Brown as a recruit.

Bryce Hopkins Decision Timeline – Who Knows?

The Hopkins recruitment is turning into a wild one. Hopkins has a Final 9 and announced he was set to decide on 10/20. Minutes after, that decision was refuted, and there is no decision date.

Friars are sneakily in the mix here, and it appears this recruitment still has many twists and turns.
